Dr Ian Duggan

IanD

Senior Lecturer

Ian Duggan is a lecturer at the University of Waikato and associate editor of Marine and Freshwater Ecology with research expertise in zooplankton taxonomy, ecology and invasion biology. Ian is involved in examining processes of colonisation in aquatic ecosystems by new species and methods for early detection of invading species. He is also involved in research examining invertebrate species responses to removal of pest fish populations. Ian was recently awarded Marsden funding from the Royal Society of New Zealand to determine whether man-made reservoirs are more readily invaded by exotic, invasive organisms than naturally occurring aquatic ecosystems. He will also investigate whether "seeding" man-made aquatic habitats with native species is an effective tool to reduce the establishment rate and spread of non-indigenous organisms.
