Dr Denise Bruesewitz

Past Post-doctoral Researcher
Dr Denise Bruesewitz was a postdoctoral fellow with LERNZ. She came from the University of Notre Dame after completing her thesis on the effects of invasive zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) on nitrogen cycling in freshwater ecosystems. While at the University of Notre Dame she was awarded the Bayer Doctoral Fellowship and North American Benthological Society Presidents Award. Denise has several areas of expertise, particularly in chemical analysis, including water chemistry analyses using Dionex and Lachat systems, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and carbon/nitrogen ratio analyses. While in New Zealand she did her research on quantifying nitrogen cycling rates (primarily nitrification and denitrification) in the sediments of the Rotorua Lakes under various stratification scenarios.
